Defrost or cook from frozen: Oven bake, pre-heat your oven to 190c. Place the salmon in foil, add a little butter and make a loose parcel. Bake for approximately 15 mins from fresh or 20 minutes from frozen. Make sure the salmon is cooked through before serving. Pan frying is also a great way to cook these fantastic Salmon Fillets. We recommend you defrost first for pan fying, at room temperature for 2 - 3 hours or overnight in a refrigerator. Place a knob of butter and a tablespoon of olive oil in a pan (the olive oil stops the butter from burning) then cook on a medium heat turning occasionally. Add salt & pepper to taste. Cook for 8 - 10 mins until the fillets are cooked through.
How do i know the salmon is cooked? The fillets go a very light pink when cooked, if they look opacue & deeper pink they need a little longer. The centre of the fillet should be the same colour as the rest of the fish.
Defrost or cook from frozen, which is best? Cooking from frozen is perfectly fine, it doesn't damage the salmon or affect the taste in anyway at all, the main benefit to cooking from frozen is the convenience. It's great if you are short of time or forget to prep ahead, you can grab your salmon from the freezer and have a healthy meal ready in minutes. It's a great back up to have in your freezer! Of course if you have lots of time then defrost the fillets first and oven bake or steam. We do recommend defrosting first if you want to pan fry, this is because the fillets are thick, they will cook more evenly in the pan if defrosted.
