Frozen Cod
Buy Frozen Cod Online – Fillets, Loins & Breaded
Our frozen cod is wild-caught in the North Atlantic and individually quick frozen (IQF) on board the boat, typically within four to six hours of being landed. Every fillet and loin arrives at your door with the texture, flavour, and nutritional value you’d expect from fish bought straight off the quayside — without the guesswork about how long it’s been sitting on a counter.
We stock three main cuts: classic cod fillets (skin-on, pin bone in), premium boneless and skinless cod loins, and breaded cod loins in a light, crispy coating. Each is vacuum-sealed and packed with dry ice for next-day UK delivery. Free delivery on all orders over £65.
Cod Fillets vs Cod Loins – Which Should You Choose?
Cod fillets are taken from the belly of the fish — they’re thinner, wider, and have a slightly more delicate flake. They’re brilliant for pan-frying, battering for fish and chips, or poaching. Our frozen cod fillets come skin-on with small pin bones (easily removed after cooking), and each fillet weighs roughly 180–225g.
Cod loins are cut from the thickest part of the fish, just behind the head. They’re chunkier, meatier, and hold their shape well during cooking — making them ideal for oven baking, air frying, or roasting with Mediterranean vegetables. Our cod loins are fully skinless and boneless, with each portion weighing around 170–200g. They’re the premium option and the best choice if you want thick, restaurant-quality portions.

Why Buy Frozen Cod from Seafresh?
Every piece of cod we sell is frozen at sea — not at a processing plant days after catch, but on the fishing vessel itself. Our cod is individually quick frozen within four to six hours of leaving the water, which halts histamine formation immediately and locks in freshness at its absolute peak. This is the single biggest quality difference between our frozen cod and what you’ll find in a supermarket freezer aisle.
For customers with histamine intolerance, this matters enormously. Standard frozen cod can be processed, transported, and refrozen over days or weeks, during which histamine levels rise. Our frozen-at-sea process means histamine stays at its lowest possible level, which is why nutritionists specifically recommend our cod for people with histamine sensitivities. Look for the green tick icon on our product images — this marks our verified low-histamine products.
We’re rated 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot across more than 2,900 reviews. Our cod is sustainably sourced following the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Fish Guide, and every fillet is fully traceable from catch to your kitchen.
How to Cook Frozen Cod
Every cut of our frozen cod can be cooked straight from frozen — no defrosting required.
Oven Baked Cod (From Frozen)
Preheat your oven to 180°C. Place the cod in a loose foil parcel or oven-proof dish with a knob of butter, a squeeze of lemon juice, and seasoning. Bake for 20–25 minutes for fillets or 25–30 minutes for thicker loins. The fish will steam inside the parcel and stay beautifully moist. Check that it’s opaque and flakes easily in the centre before serving.
Pan-Fried Cod
For pan-frying, we recommend defrosting first — allow one to two hours at room temperature or overnight in the fridge. Heat a knob of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook fillets for three to four minutes per side until golden. For loins, give them four to five minutes per side due to the extra thickness. Season with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon during cooking.
Air Fryer Cod
Our frozen cod is ideal for air frying. Set your air fryer to 180°C and cook from frozen for 12–15 minutes, turning once halfway through. The result is a light, flaky texture with no added oil. For breaded cod loins, increase to 15–18 minutes for a crispy golden coating.
Classic Battered Cod
Defrost fillets fully before battering. Make a simple batter with plain flour, sparkling water, salt, and a pinch of turmeric for colour. Heat oil to 180°C and fry for four to five minutes until golden and crisp. Drain on kitchen paper and serve immediately with chips and mushy peas.
Frozen Cod Nutrition
Cod is one of the leanest fish you can buy. A typical 150g portion provides approximately 25g of protein with less than 1g of fat, making it one of the lowest-calorie protein sources available. It’s also a strong source of vitamin B12 (important for energy and nerve function), iodine (essential for thyroid health — and something many people in the UK are deficient in), and phosphorus for bone strength.
Unlike oily fish such as salmon or mackerel, cod is very low in omega-3 fatty acids. If you’re looking specifically for omega-3 content, our frozen salmon or frozen mackerel are better choices. Where cod excels is as a high-protein, low-fat option that works brilliantly for calorie-controlled diets, meal prep, and feeding the family without breaking the bank.
For a similar white fish with a slightly sweeter flavour, try our frozen haddock. Looking for something even quicker? Our frozen fish cakes include a Cod & Parsley flavour that’s ready in minutes.
How to Store Frozen Cod
Our frozen cod maintains its premium quality for up to 12 months when stored at -18°C or below. Keep it in its original vacuum-sealed packaging in the coldest part of your freezer. Once defrosted, treat it as fresh and use within 24 hours — do not refreeze after defrosting at room temperature. If your delivery arrives partially defrosted but still cold to the touch, it is perfectly safe to place back in the freezer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you cook cod from frozen?
Yes. All of our frozen cod — fillets, loins, and breaded portions — can be cooked directly from frozen. Oven baking in a loose foil parcel at 180°C for 20–30 minutes (depending on thickness) is the easiest method. Air frying from frozen at 180°C for 12–15 minutes also works perfectly.
Is frozen cod as good as fresh?
In most cases, it’s better. Our cod is frozen at sea within hours of catch, meaning it’s locked in at peak freshness. So-called “fresh” cod on a fishmonger counter or supermarket shelf may have been several days since catch before you buy it, during which time flavour, texture, and nutritional value all degrade. Frozen-at-sea cod retains more nutrients and has significantly lower histamine levels than fresh alternatives.
What’s the difference between cod fillets and cod loins?
Fillets come from the belly of the fish and are thinner with a lighter flake — ideal for frying, battering, or poaching. Loins are cut from the thickest part behind the head, giving you a chunky, meaty portion that holds its shape well during oven baking or air frying. Loins are boneless and skinless; our fillets are skin-on with pin bones.
Is your frozen cod suitable for people with histamine intolerance?
Yes. Our frozen cod is individually quick frozen (IQF) on board the fishing vessel within four to six hours of catch, which halts histamine formation immediately. This makes it one of the lowest-histamine cod products available in the UK. Look for the green tick icon on product images to identify our verified low-histamine products.
Where is your cod sourced from?
Our cod is wild-caught in the North Atlantic. All sourcing follows the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Fish Guide, and every fillet is fully traceable from catch to delivery. We work exclusively with fishing partners who meet strict sustainability and catch quota standards.
How long does frozen cod last in the freezer?
Up to 12 months at -18°C or below when stored in its original vacuum-sealed packaging.
