DEFROST THE DAY BEFORE – REMOVE FROM THE FREEZER 24 HOURS BEFORE YOU ARE GOING TO COOK IT – this is to make sure the Turkey Crown is fully defrosted in the centre. Place it in a cold room like a pantry or the fridge, some Turkeys are bigger and take longer so give yourself more time rather than less π
ALL OVENS VARY – PLEASE MAKE SURE THE TURKEY CROWN IS HOT AND COOKED IN THE CENTRE BEFORE SERVINGΒ
Pre-heat your oven to 180c / Gas mark 5 ( ovens do vary so we do stress keep checking your Turkey & keep basting – see below)
TURKEY CROWN COOKING TIMES just a reminder about the Turkey Crowns and what to do for the big day. Firstly remove it from the freezer Christmas Eve morning ( if you want to cook it Christmas Eve take it out now! Weigh your Turkey, some are bigger than the weight on label ( an added bonus) π For example a 2kg Turkey may be 2.8kg or even 3kg. Depending on size it can take a while to defrost. You can leave in the fridge overnight or in a cold pantry. When you are ready to cook, pre-heat your oven to 180c – make sure your Turkey is defrosted. Place it into an oven proof dish so you can baste with chicken stock. Once defrosted rub with butter & seasoning ( whatever you like), you can cover the crown with streaky bacon if you wish ( it will be too crispy to eat but will add flavour). If it starts to brown too much during cooking ( with or without bacon, cover with foil). Get some chicken stock ready for basting. Make sure there is some stock / liquid in the dish before you start cooking too. Cooking times: 20 mins plus 40 minutes per kilo. So a 2kg Turkey will take 100 minutes. A 2.5KG Turkey Crown will take 120 minutes etc. 1kg Turkey Crowns take around an hour / 60 mins (20 mins plus 40 mins) but again just check the weight, if itβs closer to 1.5kg add another 20 mins, so it will be 80 mins. Check the Turkey is hot in the centre before serving, you can use a long pointed knife, kebab stick, fork anything & check the middle is hot, as ovens do vary. If itβs not hot bake another 15 mins, the key is too keep checking and basting ( the basting with chicken stock keeps it moist ). Cover with foil to keep it warm and let it rest for 5 minutes. Enjoy!! Serve with your favourite seasonal vegetables, stuffing & pigs in blankets!!
